The Cable News Operating Model

Help Defend Against Big Agra

For years, your HSUS has been on the front lines against Big Agribusiness, conducting groundbreaking investigations to expose cruelty and winning better conditions for farm animals. But we are facing a big attack.

I've witnessed politicians who fawn over Big Ag in ways that make sensible people shake their heads. One politician Big Ag seems to have on speed dial is Rep. Steve King from Iowa.

King is so anti-animal that he worked harder than any other legislator to block federal policies to crack down on cruel, illegal dogfighting. And now, his amendment to the Farm Bill could overturn literally dozens of state animal protection laws. Measures passed by voters and state lawmakers that crack down on farm-animal confinement, horse slaughter, puppy mills, shark finning, and even dog meat could be wiped out if the "King amendment" passes. It's a big deal, and with your help we will keep fighting to stop it.

Big Ag and those who are on their side -- like Rep. King -- are trying to silence anyone against their interests and leave them all in the dark, including you and me who believe cruelty to animals is wrong.

But while Big Ag has some big guns -- and big funds -- on their side, I know we have something bigger and even more powerful: you.

With you by our side, we can continue to take on Big Ag and all the individuals and industries who profit from animal cruelty. Recently, we've caused some of the largest pork producers and supply chains to join the movement in phasing out gestation crates. We're also making progress with the USDA when it comes to banning the slaughter of sick and injured veal calves.

If we have you, then we have what it takes to confront animal cruelty of all forms -- whether it's against those who mistreat dogs in puppy mills, club baby seals in the name of fashion, or abuse animals in factory farms. Please stand with us and make your special gift today.

Help Ban Antibiotics From Organic Fruit

Get a load of this...I guess all this time the organic apples I eat aren't really natural.
Current organic standard allow farmers to spray apple and pear trees with antibiotics. These same standards prohibit the use of antibiotics in animal feed, or to stimulate the growth or production of livestock but not organic fruit. It's unacceptable for the industry to be allowed to use these sprays when consumers expect that their organic food would contain no antibiotic residues whatsoever.
Please sign the petition asking for no more antibiotics on organic apples and pears!

The Plan to Clean The Oceans in 5 Years

Boyan Slat, 19 years old, created a plan to remove plastic waste from the world's oceans in just five years... using the oceans to do it.

It's rare for people with the obvious financial means this guy has to be this benevolent. I sincerely hope he stays this path and if this can work he should be treated like a messiah. I'd protect someone like this with my life. Imagine for a second, if people were unburdened with, what some would consider the abject slavery of being a cog in a malfunctioning machine - what if people were allowed more freedom to be creative instead of being simple drones? When someone told me of Boyan last night I was blown away at his drive and his age but then it dawned on me that he possibly was born on third base (money-wise)... so he is a person that can afford to day dream, ponder issues, travel, and be creative. We need more people like this guy and less of the Kennedy, Rockefeller, Rothschild types. Here is a guy, that at 19, isn't thinking about himself first and foremost... a problem which plagues humanity.

I don't think you or I could ever imagine just how massively polluted the oceans are today. I believe, in the North Pacific Gyre (also known as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch) alone, over 150,000 sea birds die each year from consuming plastics. Think about all the trash you create in a given day, multiply that by 365, then multiply that by the number of people inhabiting the west coast of North America and the east coast of Asia... then think about all the stuff all of these people put down their drains (cleaning chemicals, dyes, hair products, drugs (in urine), et al)... it is beyond mind numbing. And of course, all of this pollution flows up the food chain; it is so bad off the coast of California that if a dolphin or orca were to wash ashore they would be treated as hazardous waste! Then factor in radiation oozing out of Japan (still), like puss oozing from an infected pimple, and you have a very brief description of the peril facing the Pacific Ocean alone.

We should all pitch in what we can... $5, $10, $100, whatever, to help manifest this guys plan.

Stop thinking about you for a minute. If you have children, do you want them inheriting a broken, wretched planet? I'm not talking about the silly bullshit of CO2 which we all exhale and which makes vegetation thrive; the oceans are kind of the heartbeat of the planet. Just remember, long after you and I are dead and gone, maybe reborn, maybe not, your children and their children will still be here.

And this is not including the effects of industrial fishing operations that take as much as possible without thought of impact, and all the bycatch they kill:

Like it or not, the oceans are dying. But again, by all means, enjoy the sushi.

Please step up and donate what you can...

I'd imagine even a dollar would be helpful - imagine if everyone in the U.S. donated a dollar?

Monsanto donates 4.8 million to kill GMO labeling

Monsanto, DuPont and the GMA are trying to deceive Washington voters.

The battle to label GMOs in Washington State is heating up with Monsanto donated $4.6 million last week to try and kill our efforts. They were joined by fellow biotech seed and chemical giant DuPont with a donation of $3.2 million. On top of this, the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) has dumped in $2.2 million to try to hide the donations of the same junk food companies that helped defeat Prop 37 last year in California.

That brings Monsanto's total to $4.8 and DuPont to $3.4 million! And means that the opposition has more than $11 million on hand to fight your Right to Know. What are they trying to hide?

Already, the Yes on 522 campaign to labeling genetically engineered foods is looking like a rematch of last year. Not only are the same companies dumping in millions of dollars once again to keep us in the dark, but they've hired the same PR firm that created the deceptive and misleading ads in California. Earlier this week Monsanto, DuPont and the GMA’s negative ads went on the air to deceive Washington voters.

If you were outraged when we narrowly lost last year in California, then we need your help to make sure that we can get our pro-GMO labeling message out to Washington voters! Right now, we are in the heat of the battle to label GMOs in the U.S. and we need your help.

Donate right now so we can stop Monsanto’s propaganda machine cold in Washington State and help us win the fight for GMO labeling! It’s time that Americans have the right to know what Monsanto is feeding us! Every dollar counts!

While Monsanto, DuPont, Coke, Pepsi, Kraft and Kellogg's may have the money, we have the people on our side. Recent polling shows that more than 66 percent of likely voters are in favor of transparency in our food and strongly support GMO labeling.

The other good news is that yesterday a group in Washington state sued the Grocery Manufacturers Association, claiming that the trade association is “laundering money" from their members, like Pepsi, Coke, Kraft, Kellogg's and General Mills to “illegally” hide their identities. Unlike last year, these same giant food manufacturers are refusing to donate in their own names because the growing GMO labeling movement has exposed their hypocrisy and the fact that they already label GMOs in 64 other countries.

The people in Washington are fighting back. Let's let them know that we have their back!

Farmers are growing in Washington are growing more concerned since last week a story broke nationally about a WA farmer’s crop being contamination by Monsanto’s Roundup Ready GMO alfalfa. They are rightfully concerned about the real impacts that the pending approvals of GMO apples, GMO wheat and GMO salmon could have on their livelihoods.

All we’re asking for is a simple label. It’s incredible that America’s leading chemical and junk food companies are fighting to hide the ingredients in our food, but with your help we can expose their lies and win the fight to label GMOs.

Each time they try, we need to be there to stop them - to trump corporate influence with people power, to expose their lies and propaganda for what it is, and show politicians that we will hold them accountable.

The Shocking Story of How Aspartame Became Legal

Did you know that Aspartame was banned by the FDA twice? How is this product legal now?

The bittersweet argument over whether Aspartame is safe or not has been going on for a long time. On one side we have medical evidence that suggests we should avoid using it and on the other side we lean on the FDA’s approval that suggests it is safe. Since generally that seems to be the factor that many continue to hold trust based upon, I thought we could look into the Aspartame story to find out how it came to be accepted as safe by the FDA. You would think that something so widely used and so well accepted would have quite the pristine story leading to its acceptance. I imagine one will discover otherwise after reading this post.

It all starts in the mid 1960′s with a company called G.D. Searle. One of their chemists accidentally creates aspartame while trying to create a cure for stomach ulcers. Searle decides to put aspartame through a testing process which eventually leads to its approval by the FDA. Not long after, serious health effects begin to arise and G.D. Searle comes under fire for their testing practices. It is revealed that the testing process of Aspartame was among the worst the investigators had ever seen and that in fact the product was unsafe for use. Aspartame triggers the first criminal investigation of a manufacturer put into place by the FDA in 1977. By 1980 the FDA bans aspartame from use after having 3 independent scientists study the sweetener. It was determined that one main health effects was that it had a high chance of inducing brain tumors. At this point it was clear that aspartame was not fit to be used in foods and banned is where it stayed, but not for long.

Early in 1981 Searle Chairman Donald Rumsfeld (who is a former Secretary of Defense.. surprise surprise) vowed to “call in his markers,” to get it approved. January 21, 1981, the day after Ronald Reagan’s inauguration, Searle took the steps to re-apply aspartame’s approval for use by the FDA. Ronald Reagans’ new FDA commissioner Arthur Hayes Hull, Jr., appointed a 5-person Scientific Commission to review the board of inquiry’s decision. It did not take long for the panel to decide 3-2 in favor of maintaining the ban of aspartame. Hull then decided to appoint a 6th member to the board, which created a tie in the voting, 3-3. Hull then decided to personally break the tie and approve aspartame for use. Hull later left the FDA under allegations of impropriety, served briefly as Provost at New York Medical College, and then took a position with Burston-Marsteller. Burstone-Marstella is the chief public relations firm for both Monsanto and GD Searle. Since that time he has never spoken publicly about aspartame.

It is clear to this point that if anything the safety of aspartame is incredibly shaky.  It has already been through a process of being banned and without the illegitimate un-banning of the product, it would not be being used today. Makes you wonder how much corruption and money was involved with names like Rumsfeld, Reagan and Hull involved so heavily. In 1985, Monsanto decides to purchase the aspartame patent from G.D. Searle. Remember that Arthur Hull now had the connection to Monsanto. Monsanto did not seem too concerned with the past challenges and ugly image aspartame had based on its past. I personally find this comical as Monsanto’s products are banned in many countries and of all companies to buy the product they seem to fit best as they are champions of producing incredibly unsafe and untested products and making sure they stay in the market place.

Since then, aspartame has been under a lot of attack by scientists, doctors, chemists and consumers about it’s safety and neurotoxic properties. Piles of comprehensive studies have been completed that show aspartame is a cause for over 90 serious health problems such as cancer, leukemia, headaches, seizures, fibromyalgia, and epilepsy just to name a few. We have written several articles discussing various affects of aspartame.

The 'Monsanto Protection Act'...

Help kill the Monsanto Protection Act

Dave, Lisa and the Food Democracy Now! team

Last week the U.S. House of Representatives decided to introduce the same language for the Continuing Resolution spending bill (H.J.RES.59) that contained the Monsanto Protection Act that Congress passed last spring.

This past March, Monsanto succeeded in sneaking the controversial rider into a must pass spending bill, which is set to expire on September 30th. But now, with the new continuing resolution, the Monsanto Protection Act would be extended for 3 additional months!
The Monsanto Protection Act undermines the basic concept of judicial review and forces the USDA to allow the planting of untested GMO crops even if a federal court ruled that the USDA had not properly considered the environmental or economic risks these new crops pose to family farmers.

If allowed to pass again, this new provision would undermine agency oversight and this dangerous provision could eventually become permanent, allowing Monsanto to succeed in stripping judges of their constitutional mandate to protect consumer rights and the environment, while opening up the floodgates for the planting of new untested GMO crops.

Is Congress Trying to Kill GMO Labeling?

Even worse, right now Congressman Fred Upton (R-MI) is working behind the scenes to introduce a bill that would kill state GMO labeling efforts by preempting it with a bill that would place GMO labeling under federal authority, circumventing successful citizen led efforts in Maine and Connecticut and trying to invalidate the ballot initiative in Washington state before it even passes.

We need your voice today more than ever to stop Monsanto’s shenanigans in Congress!

Click here to make a call to Congress to tell them to vote no on the continuing resolution if it contains any protections for Monsanto or undermines state’s rights to label genetically engineered foods!

Even now as we are close to winning, Monsanto, DuPont and the biotech seed and chemical giants are working desperately behind the scenes to thwart our efforts.

While the previous Continuing Resolution that was passed this March is set to expire on September 30th, Roll Call reported this week that House Appropriations Chairman Harold Rogers, (R-KY) has introduced the short-term Continuing Resolution, with the exact same language as last time, which could be voted on as early as next week.

While members of the House are desperate to pitch this new continuing resolution as a “responsible” effort to pass a temporary budget to avoid a shutdown of the federal government, Monsanto and the biotech industry are using it as another opportunity to corrupt our basic democrat rights and protect their bottom line.

Last spring Food Democracy Now! members exposed the initial Monsanto Protection Act to the world when more than 300,000 of us stood up and demanded an end to the special interests handouts to Monsanto and the biotech seed and chemical giants.

Right now, we are once again calling on you and your friends and family to stand with us again to help expose this corruption of our basic democratic process once again!

Monsanto’s days are numbered and they know it! This year, you helped passed GMO labeling bills in Connecticut and Maine and right now we’re working hard with our allies to help win a citizen led ballot initiative in Washington state that would mandate labeling of genetically engineered foods.

Unfortunately, Monsanto, DuPont and the largest junk food companies in the world are determined to try to steal our basic democratic rights to protect their corrupt corporate profits. Just this week Monsanto dumped $4.5 million to defeat our efforts to win Yes on 522 and GMO labeling in Washington state while DuPont dropped $3.4 million.

Right now is the critical window where we need to stand together to stop Monsanto and these corrupt corporations from trying to betray our basic democratic rights once again.

Please stand with us to help stop Monsanto, DuPont and the biotech seed and chemical companies from corrupting our laws and democratic process.

Remember, democracy is like a muscle, either you use it or you lose it!

McCain: U.S. Must Attack Syria For Obama's Credibility

It just never ends with this guy does it?

So let's look at this. First, we have Obama; a president that acts as a dictator espousing his own personal lines in the sand outside of the consent of the House and American people. This is a president that has exponentially increased the aggression and tyranny witnessed under the Bush regime; Obama has not only caught Bush's Hail Mary pass he is going for the record. Second, we have hacks like Mr. McCain that see U.S. military inaction in Syria as catastrophic... and then, finally, it comes out. McCain supports action against the Syrian government to protect Obama's credibility because Obama declared a red line. How much more insane can this man be? And when is Arizona going to get with it and send this moron to the retirement home?

He should have been left in Syria with his new-found terrorist friends. John McCain is among the worst we have infesting "public" office.

**My Rep has sat in office now for over five years. I think it is high time that NO politician should be allowed a second term... I don't care if they are Jesus Christ incarnate. With no second terms and no lobbies I personally think we would see real change you could believe in.

Swedish Reporter Asks Obama if Nobel Peace Prize Presents ‘Dilemma’ When Planning Syria Attack

Noah Rothman
September 4, 2013

President Barack Obama flew to Sweden on Wednesday for a diplomatic meeting ahead of a two-day G20 summit in St. Petersburg, Russia. Obama held a wide-ranging press conference in Sweden relating to the White House’s effort to build support for a strike on Syria in the wake of that government’s [alleged] use of chemical weapons on civilians. One Swedish reporter cornered Obama on the contradictions contained in the fact that a Nobel Peace Prize winner is planning to launch his second war against a sovereign nation.

“I was wondering,” the reporter began, “could you describe the dilemma to being a Nobel Peace Prize winner and getting ready to attack Syria?”

The president replied that, when he delivered the speech accepting that award in 2009, he made it clear that the use of force to safeguard peace is sometimes necessary:

“I think I started the speech by saying that compared to previous recipients I was certainly unworthy,” Obama began. “But what I also described is the challenge all of us face, when we believe in peace but we confront a world that is full of violence.”

Let's see Mr. President. Continuing to wage two wars of aggression against sovereign nations, one based completely on lies, isn't violent. Overthrowing sovereign governments while utilizing terrorist elements and radicalizing moderates isn't violent... huh? Killing unintended targets on your kill list with drone strikes isn't violent. Your signing the NDAA was peaceful huh? The drones flying in Yemen are flying humanitarian flights huh? Escalating a proxy war in Somalia was peaceful. Selling $30,000,000,000 in weapons to Saudi Arabia was proliferating peace huh? Your sending special forces into 75 nations in covert action was waging peace. [There is more, much more... left out in respect of brevity.]

Obama and his regime are operating out of control and out of check of the American people. The fact that this man, in 2009(!), received the award displays what a sham the award is in and of itself. This wasn't even a year into his term; all wars expanded and still ongoing et al. Nobel Peace Prize is meaningless. As you can see from the above paragraph. there is nothing worth celebrating here.

While we know Obama utilizes doublespeak often, will someone please tell me how peace exists alongside conflict? How does conflict promote peace? Isn't that kind of like saying that the rape of women by men fosters and safeguards the respect of women by men?

There was another man that was initially celebrated only for the world to realize what he represented when it was too late:

And, for the record, Obama is simply a continuation of Bush, who was continuing from Clinton... and so on.

But hey, al-CIAeda needs an air force. I'm down for that idea if that air force is a one aircraft deal with John McCain flying and Obama sitting in as co-pilot.

Courts Confirm MMR Vaccine Causes Autism

(NaturalNews) You won't hear anything about it from the mainstream media, but the federal government's kangaroo "vaccine court" has once again conceded, albeit quietly, that the combination measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine does, indeed, cause autism. In a recently published ruling, part of which was censored from public view, a young boy was awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars after it was determined that the MMR vaccine led to a confirmed diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

Ten-year-old Ryan Mojabi's parents say he first suffered an encephalopathy after being vaccinated for MMR on December 19, 2003. Known as a "table injury," encephalopathy is a recognized, compensable adverse reaction to vaccines, and one that the kangaroo vaccine court has previously linked to vaccines. According to Ryan's parents, the MMR vaccine caused their son's encephalopathy, which manifested as "neuroimmunologically mediated dysfunctions in the form of asthma and ASD."

After being bumped around from court to court, Ryan's case was eventually heard by the vaccine court's Autism Omnibus Proceedings, according to The Huffington Post. And in the end, the federal government agreed that Ryan's encephalopathy had been caused by the MMR vaccine, a landmark ruling that confirms what Dr. Andrew Wakefield found more than 15 years ago when studying gut disorders in children given the MMR vaccine.

"Ryan suffered a Table injury under the Vaccine Act -- namely, an encephalitis within five to fifteen days following receipt (of MMR)," admitted the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) regarding the case. "This case is appropriate for compensation," it added, in full agreement with the court's decision.

Of particular note in the case is the fact that concession documents by the government remain under seal. While the court and the government at large openly admitted that the MMR vaccine caused Ryan's encephalitis, it did not make public its opinion on whether or not that encephalitis led to Ryan's other injuries, including those that fall into the category of ASD. But the fact that these documents remain censored shows that the government is hiding something of importance from the public, which most definitely has to do with the connection between the MMR vaccine and autism.

The trend began before GMO's became commonplace.

Concerned parents everywhere were right all along: MMR vaccine can cause autism

In a similar case heard during the same month, young Emily Moller from Houston, Texas, was also awarded massive compensation for injuries resulting from the MMR vaccine. According to reports, Emily experienced a severe reaction after receiving not only the MMR vaccine but also the DTaP (diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis), HiB, and Prevnar vaccines. Like with Ryan's case, the government conceded that these vaccines led to Emily's autism and other developmental problems.

These two cases, combined with numerous published studies out of the U.S., South America, and Europe, prove that the MMR vaccine is not the harmless vaccine that the conventional medical industry claims it is. In fact, everything that Dr. Wakefield found back in the late 1990s concerning the MMR vaccine -- findings that cost him his career and reputation, by the way -- are proving to be undeniably true.

"There can be very little doubt that vaccines can and do cause autism," Dr. Wakefield recently stated from his home in Austin, Texas. "In these children, the evidence for an adverse reaction involving brain injury following the MMR that progresses to an autism diagnosis is compelling. It's now a question of the body count. The parents' story was right all along. Governments must stop playing with words while children continue to be damaged. My hope is that recognition of the intestinal disease in these children will lead to the relief of their suffering. This is long, long overdue."

Sources for this article include:

Does this mean that vaccines are inherently evil? Not really. Quite possibly, the real issue lies with the additives they put into the vaccines. This is classic human idiocy... and a eugenicists dream. Take Coke for example; do you care what color it is? No, why would you? You drink it, not look at it. Yet they have put, and continue to put, 4-Mi into their caramel coloring. 4-Mi is a known carcinogen. There are so many examples like this we could dedicate an entire blog or website to the dumb things humanity does and allows done unto them. Could something similar be taking place with vaccines?

Drugs, food, and vaccines are a eugenicists dream vehicle to apply their will. Either humanity is quite dumb or there is a concerted effort at planning things like the placement of 4-Mi in Coke or thimerosal in vaccines. Then again, maybe it's a bit of both.

Human beings only appreciate what is dead...

Mississippi allow nearly 1,000 gators to be destroyed for sport from August 30 through September 6.

There is an article floating about at that praises the killing of a large gator; the anchor in the video even has a happy smirk when opening with the story... 'cause gee, ain't that just so cool? I find it disgusting that human beings apparently just really enjoy killing shit. Maybe some people would love living in a concrete world full of human beings that are idiots but I'd rather aliens come pick me up. It's as if we can't let anything live without us tainting it. Look at the shows on TV now; you have inbreds like those pictured above that have their own series because they can't hold a normal job and instead go out and kill animals. It doesn't end there either... now and in the past we never appreciate poets and artists until long after they are no longer with us... yet society at large worships grown men because they can throw around a fucking ball? What does that say to you?

Can you believe people watch this shit? What's this to do with history?!? The assault on Louisiana gators is televised.

I could have alternatively titled this Human Beings Only Appreciate Death. I am 100% ashamed to belong to this species. We have such potential but I guess the fact that we share 98% of our DNA with violent chimps makes us chimps. There is no way our behavior on this planet will see to our continued survival - I PROMISE you that.

Hey, maybe some day soon Louisiana and Mississippi will no longer have any alligators outside of their zoos... wouldn't that be a feat?

House Majority and Minority Leaders Back Obama on Syria

Like a bad episode of Homeland...
Karen Tumulty, David Nakamura and William Branigin
The Washington Post
September 3, 2013

The Republican and Democratic leaders of the House expressed strong support Tuesday for a U.S. military strike against Syria, offering crucial congressional backing for President Obama’s request for authorization to use force in response to what they and the administration say was a devastating chemical weapons attack last month.

Speaking to reporters after a White House meeting with Obama and other top congressional leaders, House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) said, “I’m going to support the president’s call for action; I believe that my colleagues should support this call for action.”

Boehner. You say tomato, I say tomato.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said he intends “to vote to provide the president of the United States the option to use military force in Syria.”

Also expressing support for a strike against the forces of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). She said Assad had acted far outside the norms of civilized behavior by launching an Aug. 21 chemical weapons attack that killed more than 1,400 people, including at least 426, on the outskirts of Damascus. [Great math skills. Yes, 426 can fit in, and is lesser than 1,400. How is this woman still politicking?]

Disgusting. Now is the time to put the screws to your career politicians to drop their support of Obama. And then, all of these hacks need to be removed from office. The Obama regime also needs to be held accountable for aiding terrorist elements (including al-Qaeda) in Syria over the last 365 days.

Hey, what about how we've spewed depleted uranium all over Iraq??? Surely the effects of that is going to last much longer... no? Oh, but that requires looking in the mirror, something that Americans no longer do.
